Today I would like to chat about using sunscreen everyday, yes...365 times a year! Think of sunscreen as protecting your skin from daylight not the sun. So many times I ask my clients if they wear sunscreen daily.....they almost always answer, "I don't really go out in the sun". I'm thinking, don't you live in LA?
Just because you don't lay on one of our beautiful SoCal beaches basking in the sun on your day off, does not mean you don't go out into the sun. We live in LA, the sun is almost always shinning....an average of 284 days of sunshine! It is impossible not to be exposed to sunlight in LA.
With that said, here is my opinion (skincare specialist of 20+ years) about the right sunscreen.
All sunscreens should be UVA and UVB protection. Physical/Mineral base is better for you and the environment than a chemical based sunscreen. The two ingredients to look for in a mineral sunscreen are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as the active ingredients.
Chemical sunscreen are killing our ocean reefs, coral bleaching! These are the ingredients you want to avoid: octinoxate, oxybenzone, PABA, and trolamine. No need to buy a 100 SPF, 25+spf UVA & UVB is great. Sunscreen only last about two hours, the integrity starts to break down, so you need to reapply.
I like, actually I love DNA Skin Institute sunscreen (28 spf). I apply it in the morning and always carry an extra one in my car. I also carry a mineral powder spf in my handbag, this makes it easy to reapply when I am wearing makeup.
There it is my quick chat and opinion reminding you that summer maybe over, but you still need your sunscreen!
